About the installation
StickerStemWijzer, developed by DRS22 in collaboration with Studio Renate Boere and commissioned by ProDemos, is an exciting new interactive tool designed to engage citizens with politics in a hands-on manner. Participants use stickers to express their agreement or disagreement with various political statements. By scanning their completed sticker sheets, they receive personalized voting advice immediately. This installation is a successor to the earlier StemWijzerwinkel and StemWijzermarkt, created for ProDemos, the House for Democracy and Rule of Law.
Launched by Jozias van Aartsen for the 2014 municipal elections in The Hague, StickerStemWijzer aims to familiarize both young and old with the key issues in their municipality. Participants place stickers on large canvases to indicate their stance on various statements and discover which political party aligns most with their views.
About the Design
The StickerStemWijzer features three life-sized canvases displaying political statements from the online municipal StemWijzer. Participants use green and red stickers to indicate their agreement or disagreement. Once completed, the sticker sheets are scanned at a voting booth, and a receipt shows the political parties that align most closely with the participant’s views. The longer the installation remains in place, the clearer the collective political opinions of the participants become.
StickerStemWijzer debuts at liberation festivals in The Hague, Rotterdam, Groningen, and Vlissingen. It is also featured in municipal elections, aiming to make it easier for young people to choose a party, especially for the European elections. The installation’s progress can be tracked via a Facebook application, which updates hourly with photos, allowing users to follow their city’s political sentiment in real-time.
In essence, StickerStemWijzer serves as an innovative bridge between the public and the political landscape, encouraging deeper engagement and reflection through an interactive and accessible format.
