About the book

Aan ’t Groothoofd is a concise publication dedicated to the eponymous artwork created by Robert Zandvliet for the Dordrechts Museum. This fifty-meter-long mural resembles a water reflection, capturing the various stages of time passing. As you walk along the mural, you witness the sun rising and setting, embodying the flow of time. This concept of time’s passage forms the foundation of the publication Aan ’t Groothoofd.

About the Design

Contrary to the imposing mural, the publication is a compact, bound booklet that allows readers to experience the passage of time through a subtle gradient from light to dark on the pages. The design unfolds like a visual diary, narrating the artist’s methods and references.

Interwoven with the main text by head curator Judith Spijksma are fragments from the artist’s diary. These fragments act as a textual timeline, connecting the process of the artwork with various details of the mural, thus enriching the reader’s understanding and experience.

“The design unfolds like a visual diary.”

“The concept of time’s passage forms the foundation of the publication.”
