About the poster
Every day, designers translate ideals and visions into convincing visual statements that influence our opinion. With some cynicism, we can say that they present other people’s ideals and visions as powerful positive statements with a bit of ‘sheer pretence’, even though the underlying reality is sometimes different. But what do graphic designers have to tell us themselves? In 2007, designers, printers and Theater Zeebelt from The Hague took the initiative to make themselves heard – armed with their own (idea) images. This initiative is called Schoon of Schijn (Shining or Shining) .
About the Design
The idea for the poster came from my annoyance about the ‘complaining culture’ of the Dutch. The poster, which hung in a busy metro station, calls for critical thinking about one’s own possibilities.
