About the event

Walk-in + special guest: Renate Boere – Lecture on book design and self-initiating projects Monsterkamer/Amsterdam

Every other month on Thursday De Monsterkamer organizes an Inloop + special guest. This time Renate Boere is invited. Studio Renate Boere has been working for the cultural sector for 20 years and has designed more than 65 books together with artists.

During her presentation in De Monsterkamer, Renate Boere will discuss the journalistic novel: Ik vraag u iets meer lef te toont.

After rarely seeing meaningful social design solutions, Renate Boere decides to start her own project and write about it at the same time. This brings her into a whole new world of confidentiality agreements, copyrights, complicated contracts, collaborations with the most diverse stakeholders, grant applications, hybrid publishing and winning international prizes.

Her extensive research and findings can be read in the journalistic novel Ik vraag u iets meer lef te toont. A must-have for students, recent graduates and for anyone who wants to start a project themselves. Her motto: ‘Hybrid (graphic) design is a weapon in the fight against stagnation and decay and a catalyst for dynamism and progress’. The physical book is part of a hybrid publication, another part is Methode Studio Renate Boere. This platform will provoke discussion and interaction with other designers in the coming year. Together we will form a valuable document for students, recent graduates and anyone who wants to start a project themselves.

Studio Renate Boere regularly collaborates with artists. The most recent collaboration was with artist Lizan Freijsen, which resulted in the book design of The Living Surface. A beautiful example of a design in which the artist’s working method is revealed.

The extensive oeuvre book Sproken, Christie van der Haak, takes you into the colourful world of the artist. The book design has won prizes at the European Design Awards and the International Design Awards.
