With the interactive game Democracity children aged 11-12 years get introduced at city hall and are being educated about democratic decision-making by building a city together. This game is an accessible manner for city halls to open their doors to elementary schools.

The game is an idea by Edubel and re-designed by Studio Renate Boere.

About the Design

Democracity consists of a practically sized box with 60 different perspex buildings. Each building has a specific theme, like: swimming pool, police station, mosque etc. These buildings are intelligently stackable like nesting dolls. This way the game is relatively small when it’s being stored.

For setting up the city, the children focus on different political parties. In this way they can experience that consultation, argumentation, majority and consensus are important in a democratic society. At the same time their interest is raised for democratic decision-making.
