The book is an inspiring message for young designers and architecture students at the beginning of their development: keep drawing!
About the project:
Bob Custers is an architect and the founder of VOCUS Architects. In his latest book ‘The Joy of Daily Drawing. Bob Custers’, he presents a unique and comprehensive development in his day-to-day drawing over 50 years. This journey showcases his growth from a child to an adult architect. The result is a book spanning more than 600 pages, containing a wealth of images, texts and insights. It demonstrates the value of drawing as a tool for reflection, introspection, and research. Most importantly, the book delivers an inspiring message for young designers and architecture students at the beginning of their development: keep drawing!
About the design:
Together with Bob, Studio Renate Boere applied the image editing with great pleasure and precision. We continuously explored the storylines these thousands of drawings could tell to highlight the importance of drawing in the creative process. Additionally, we considered how to present these drawings in the most appealing and effective way to the audience. The designers deliberated on which typographic grid and fonts would best support this narrative, the format that best displays the drawings and accurately represents the process, the title that best conveys the essence of the book, and the cover drawing that best tells the story of growth and development from childhood to creative career.
